And that’s not even counting the architectural and historical richness for which all of Italy is famous.

Private excursions from Rome are an excellent choice if you suddenly have a free day, run out of plans, or haven’t had time to think about your next route. Everything has already been taken care of for you! So, you can simply enjoy your packed vacation.

Advantages of One Day Excursions from Rome

During group excursions from Rome, you won’t have to deal with the complex transportation issues. Newcomers find it difficult to figure out how to get to one suburb or another. An organized excursion from Rome already includes transportation arrangements, whether by bus or car.

Just an hour to an hour and a half from Rome, there are plenty of interesting spots:

  • Ostia Antica. The ancient trading city and former Roman port is notable for its amphitheater, forum, baths, and the residence of rulers. It’s peaceful, cozy, and very picturesque, with a beach and sea close by. Along the road stretches an impressive necropolis, right up to Porta Romana—the ancient gates to the city.
  • Bracciano. This small town is notable for its volcanic lake and the medieval Odescalchi Castle. Films are constantly shot here, and in summer, you can even swim.
  • Tivoli. The ancient city was founded in the 13th century BC, and some of its surviving buildings are now on the UNESCO list. Be sure to see the Villa d’Este with its luxurious garden and fountains, the monumental Imperial Villa of Hadrian, the picturesque Gregorian Villa with waterfalls and grottoes, and the Renaissance Castle of Pope Pius II.
  • Viterbo. Once the former Etruscan capital, it became a refuge for the main papal residence. It’s also worth seeing the late Gothic Farnese Palace, the medieval Pilgrim’s Quarter, and the San Lorenzo Cathedral. The town features several spectacular Gothic fountains.
  • Cerveteri. The ancient city once belonged to the Etruscans, dating back to the 9th-10th centuries BC. You can still see the necropolises, which are impressive in scale and luxury.
  • Calcata. A small town hidden among forests on the edge of a cliff. Artists and poets have always sought to come here in search of new imagery and inspiration. It was they who brought Calcata back to life when they began buying houses, setting up galleries, and opening workshops.
