Florence is the city where the revival of Greek culture began, an era known as the Renaissance. Thirty-one percent of all Italy’s cultural treasures are preserved here.

What to expect during the tour

We will stroll through the ancient narrow streets once walked by geniuses like Dante, Michelangelo, Leonardo, and Raphael, gradually uncovering the city’s secrets. We’ll visit government palaces and dive into the rich history of Florence and its rulers. I’ll share stories of Florence during the Republican era and the Medici dynasty. We’ll admire Tuscany’s grand cathedral, its baptistery, and bell tower, explore Dante’s neighborhood, and visit the church he frequented as a child. You’ll also see his house and, if we’re lucky, catch a reading of the Divine Comedy. Our journey includes a stop at the “Florentine Pantheon,” the Church of Santa Croce (optional, entrance €8), where Michelangelo, Machiavelli, Galileo, Rossini, and others are laid to rest. We’ll savor gelato at a historic café and explore the square, an open-air museum. We’ll then visit the Ponte Vecchio, make a wish, and rub the famous piglet’s nose for good luck.

What will be the itinerary of our tour

We’ll start our exploration of Florence and its history at the train station, built during Mussolini’s era. Then, we’ll walk along the walls of an ancient monastery and visit the 13th-century monastery pharmacy, the most famous in Italy, featuring preserved frescoes and many other wonders. We’ll see one of Florence’s most beautiful squares, Santa Maria Novella, pass through a Renaissance-style palace, and delve into the history of the Renaissance era. Next, we’ll head to Piazza della Repubblica, the most modern square built in the 19th century, reminiscent of Parisian squares. From there, we’ll proceed to the religious heart of Florence at Cathedral Square, where we’ll find a picturesque spot for stunning photographs of the Tuscan cathedral, its baptistery, and bell tower.

We’ll wander through narrow medieval streets to the Dante quarter and then to the Michelangelo quarter, discussing these legendary geniuses. Along the way, we’ll take a pleasant break to discuss food! In a historic café, we can taste the famous authentic ice cream that Florence is known for (if desired). In the political center of the city, we’ll visit the Old Palace, admire 16th-century sculptures, and walk along a narrow street to the Ponte Vecchio (Golden Bridge), the only surviving ancient bridge in Florence. Finally, we’ll have the chance to make a wish at the famous Piglet statue!
